Pioneering lawyer, former prosecutor and best-selling crime novelist Linda Fairstein retained by Kroll Advisory Solutions as senior advisor

Kroll Advisory Solutions, the global leader in risk mitigation and response, announced today that Linda Fairstein, the ground breaking former Chief of New York County’s Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit and best-selling author, has been retained as a senior advisor.

America’s foremost legal expert on crimes of violence against women and children, Fairstein will leverage her exceptional investigative and prosecutorial experience on behalf of Kroll and its clients, advising on corporate investigations, risk mitigation and best practices for creating ethical work environments. She will also consult with universities and other academic institutions on sexual assault prevention, response and crisis management.

“As one of the nation’s preeminent sex crimes prosecutors and a thought leader on the legal profession and women’s rights, Linda will provide Kroll’s clients with unique capabilities and insight into creating and fostering ethical work environments,” said Robert Brenner, Head of Investigations for the Americas. “I am excited to welcome Linda to our team and look forward to sharing her expertise with our clients.”

From 1972 through 2002, Fairstein served in the office of the New York County District Attorney, where she was Chief of the Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit for 26 years. In that role, she was responsible for creating many of the techniques that have revolutionized the investigation and prosecution of these crimes. Fairstein was one of the first prosecutors in America to work with DNA, introduced the use of John Doe DNA indictments, created the first “cold case DNA unit,” and drafted legislation for a variety of laws which have improved the ability to allow victims of sex offenses to triumph in the courtroom. She has received numerous awards for her legal work and advocacy, and in many instances, was the first woman to be so honored. These include, among others, the Federal Bar Council’s Emory Buckner Award for Public Service, the UJA Federation’s Proskauer Award, Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year Award, and the 2010 New York Women’s Agenda Lifetime Achievement Award for her domestic violence work.

Fairstein is the award-winning author of an internationally best-selling series of crime novels, the fourteenth of which, Night Watch, will be published in July 2012 by Dutton. Fairstein is also the author of a non-fiction work, Sexual Violence: Our War Against Rape (William Morrow & Co., 1993), which was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. She is a regular contributor on criminal justice issues to magazines and journals.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the world’s premiere investigative and risk consulting firm and eager to employ my expertise, developed over decades of practice, for the benefit of Kroll's clients,” Fairstein said. “I am especially looking forward to assisting colleges and universities in responding intelligently and responsibly to the threat of sexual abuse and misconduct.”
