A secure cross-domain information sharing solution developed by ITT Exelis (NYSE:XLS) and the Air Force Research Laboratory has been added to the Unified Cross Domain Management Office (UCDMO) Baseline List of Validated Cross Domain Solutions.

Called Information Support Server Environment (ISSE) v4.0, the solution enables the secure, high-speed, bi-directional transfer of data between two or more security domains accredited for operation at different classification levels. Transfer mechanisms supported include email with attachments, bulk file, database synchronization, Web services, and chat.

The UCDMO Baseline documents cross domain information sharing and access capabilities that are available to agencies in the Department of Defense (DoD), the intelligence community (IC) and others. To be included on the list, the technology must be certified, accredited for operational use, and have a three-year life-cycle support agreement.

“The Exelis and AFRL team has a long history of providing secure cross domain information sharing capabilities to a broad spectrum of U.S. federal government and coalition partner customers,” said David Fastabend, vice president of advanced information systems for Exelis. “ISSE v4.0 features a scalable architecture capable of supporting tactical and worldwide enterprise operations, improved performance, increased network connectivity, more data formats, and easier administration. These features support the UCDMO goals of providing secure, robust capabilities and maximizing return on investment.”

Among the more than 120 different data types shareable cross domain are Microsoft Office 2007/2010 files, imagery, XML, and fixed formatted message traffic. Further cross domain information sharing versatility is provided to system integrators through availability of a secure ISSE Application Programmer Interface allowing traditionally single-domain COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) and GOTS (government off-the-shelf) applications to operate across security domain boundaries. Both fully automated and manual review modes of operations are supported.

ISSE is a critical component of secure data communications throughout the U.S. and its allies and is integral to operations at IC and DoD sites worldwide.
